- The microbiology lab is used to perform sterility tests for sterile products like Injections, Eye Drops, and some Medical Devices and to perform total viable count & identification of pathogens in less critical products like Liquid Oral, Creams, etc.
- To enter the Microbiology Lab one shall go through the changing rooms where he needs to wear adequate garments.
- Various rooms of the Microbiology Lab and there use as follows:
- Media Preparation Room– Here media is prepared by mixing media with water and heating. It is to be sterilized before use.
- Auto Clave Room– Prepared media & testing instruments/glassware are sterilized in this room.
- Incubator Room– In this room prepared and sterilized media is stored before use and till its growth promotion activities are verified.
- Air Locks– To enter the Sterility test lab or Microbiology limit test lab, the person shall pass through air locks so that the air outside does not mix with the sterile air. A Sterile gowning facility is provided in airlocks.
- Sterility Test Lab– Air classification of the sterility lab is class – 1,000. A laminar flow is placed in this lab which provides a class -100 environment. This lab has positive air pressure.
- MLT Lab and Pathogen Lab– These are used to count and identify pathogens.
- Additional Incubation Rooms– This incubation room is used to incubate media tubes of tested samples. Incubators with different temperatures are provided to support the growth of aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms. BOD incubators are provided in this lab.
- Media Store-This is used to store the media
- BET Room– Bacterial Endotoxin Test is performed here
- Media Discard Room- An autoclave is provided in this room to destroy microorganisms in the tested media tubes, plates, and instruments.
- Washing – This room is provided to clean the glass air instruments used for performing microbiology tests.
