The Telangana government has reported remarkable strides in the life sciences sector, successfully securing over Rs. 36,000 crore in investments from more than 140 initiatives in the past year. These investments are poised to create 51,000 direct employment opportunities and an estimated 1,50,000 indirect jobs, cementing Telangana’s position as a global leader in the life sciences arena.

Addressing the state’s accomplishments, Duddilla Sridhar Babu, the minister for industries and commerce, emphasized that Telangana has emerged as a central hub for both multinational and local life sciences firms, with Hyderabad at the forefront of innovation. “We have observed a significant influx of investments from numerous international and domestic corporations, choosing Telangana as their entry point into India’s burgeoning life sciences landscape. From pharmaceutical production and R&D centers to Global Capability Centres (GCCs), these investments throughout the life sciences value chain establish Telangana as an undisputed global frontrunner. This trend involves not only noteworthy contributions from newcomers but also further investments by companies that recognize the benefits of expanding here. This is a testament to their confidence in the current government’s business-friendly climate and robust ecosystem cultivated over the last 2-3 decades,” he remarked.

At the core of the government’s strategy is Genome Valley, India’s premier organized R&D hub, consistently drawing top industry figures and pioneering research bodies. Another area of interest for the government is the convergence of life sciences and technology. Hyderabad boasts a rich talent pool with expertise in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, AI/ML, data analytics, and digital health. With these considerable assets, Hyderabad stands out as a prime destination for life sciences and healthcare Global Capability Centres (GCCs).

“We take pride in these investments which underscore our capability to allure companies across the life sciences and healthcare spectrum, including pharma, biotech, medtech, healthcare providers, and health insurance entities. This stems from our diligent efforts to actively engage with these global players, consistently presenting Hyderabad as a top-tier choice.

We are pleased to reveal that we will soon introduce a focused life sciences policy, designed to further streamline processes, attract investments, foster innovation, and drive sustainable growth across this vital sector. This forthcoming policy aims to meet the evolving demands of the life sciences industry, ensuring Telangana fortifies its role as a pivotal node in the global life sciences value chain,” stated Minister Babu.
