The Telangana government has proudly reported remarkable strides in the life sciences domain, amassing investments exceeding Rs. 36,000 crore across more than 140 projects within the past year. These investments are projected to generate 51,000 direct employment opportunities and approximately 1,50,000 indirect jobs, affirming Telangana’s reputation as a global hub in the life sciences sector.

Commenting on the state’s accomplishments, Minister for Industries and Commerce, Duddilla Sridhar Babu emphasized that Telangana has become a key destination for both international and local life sciences firms, with Hyderabad emerging as a center of innovation.

“We are witnessing a substantial influx of investments from numerous global and domestic firms that have selected Telangana as their entryway into India’s booming life sciences landscape. These projects, ranging from pharmaceutical manufacturing and R&D facilities to Global Capability Centres (GCC), underscore Telangana’s unchallenged lead in the global life sciences arena. This positive trend is not only driven by new market players but also by existing companies seeking to expand their presence in Telangana—an indication of their confidence in the government’s business-friendly policies we’ve prioritized over the last year, alongside the robust ecosystem developed over 2-3 decades,” he stated.

The core of this governmental initiative is centered around Genome Valley, India’s pioneering and most extensive R&D cluster, which consistently draws industry pioneers and trailblazing research entities. Another promising area identified by the government is the synergy between life sciences and technology. Hyderabad is home to a vast talent pool with proficiency in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, AI/ML, data analytics, and digital health. With these exceptional capacities, Hyderabad has carved out a distinct niche as a hub for life sciences and healthcare Global Capability Centres (GCCs).

“We take pride in these investments, showcasing our ability to entice companies across the life sciences and healthcare spectrum including pharma, biotech, medtech, healthcare providers, and health insurance players. This achievement reflects our commitment to aggressively promoting Hyderabad as a premier destination for these global businesses.

We are also thrilled to announce the imminent introduction of a specialized life sciences policy, aiming to streamline operations, attract investments, encourage innovation, and drive sustainable growth in this essential sector. This upcoming policy is crafted to cater to the life sciences industry’s evolving requirements, ensuring Telangana cements its role as a critical entity in the global life sciences value chain,” Minister Babu elaborated.
