Croda Beauty Actives Shifts to PFAS-Free Peptide Alternatives
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), commonly known as “forever chemicals,” constitute a vast family of over 10,000 man-made compounds. These are prized in numerous applications, like cosmetics, for their resistance to water and grease. However, due to their enduring nature in the environment and potential health hazards, they have sparked environmental and health concerns.
In Europe, numerous PFAS face restrictions under REACH, with 14 already banned in cosmetics due to their carcinogenicity and reproductive toxicity. The ECHA currently has plans to extend general PFAS restrictions. Across the Atlantic, certain states in the US have outlawed cosmetics that contain deliberately added PFAS.
