In a recent announcement, the surgical tissue closure firm DuraStat revealed a new and exclusive U.S. commercial collaboration with a Medtronic unit.
Rooted in Austin, DuraStat has joined forces with the Advanced Energy segment part of Medtronic’s Cranial and Spinal Technologies division. This alliance aims to significantly enhance clinical delivery of DuraStat’s flagship products: DuraStat and TissueStat.
According to the company’s press release, DuraStat (designed for spine dural repairs) and TissueStat (focused on minimally invasive spine fascial closure) have already gained widespread use among spine surgeons. These technologies are available in surgical centers throughout all U.S. states, with more than 10,000 units already distributed.
Implemented last month, the partnership anticipates the release of a second-generation DuraStat model. An extensive commercial rollout for TissueStat is also on the horizon.
As detailed on their website, DuraStat is a surgical tool that delivers superior, gold-standard dural repairs efficiently, even when access is limited. It streamlines procedures and automates the suture process with the touch of a button. This system allows for controlled tear management with precise suture placement and reduced tissue interference.
Engineered for excellence, the needle and suture feature a smooth, curved tip design, promoting pre-selection of optimal needle placement locations.
CEO Adam Azzara of DuraStat commented, “Together, we can swiftly realize our vision to have DuraStat and TissueStat accessible at every spine surgery facility. This collaboration features products that are simple, economical, and clinically trusted, together with a broad and proficient network to enhance customer support.”
