Exactech recently confirmed the inaugural surgical procedures using its innovative Exactech GPS Ankle system for comprehensive ankle replacement.
Dr. Edward Haupt, affiliated with Mayo Florida in Jacksonville, had the honor of performing the first-ever surgery with this technology. Haupt was instrumental in the design of the GPS Ankle.
The FDA granted approval to Exactech’s technology roughly a year ago.
“I am honored to pioneer the use of GPS Ankle globally. This significant new product is a testament to the collaborative effort of our surgeon design team, Exactech, and Blue Ortho,” Haupt expressed. “It enhances the precision in executing surgical plans and is a game-changer now that it’s accessible for ankle replacement procedures, as the navigation aids in making complex surgeries more consistent, benefiting surgeons and patients alike.”
The GPS Ankle system bridges preoperative planning with live, intraoperative instrument guidance, ensuring that resections are in alignment with the surgical objectives.
Created by Exactech’s subsidiary Blue Ortho, the system incorporates exclusive active tracker technology and a compact touchscreen within the sterile field, supplying surgeons with dynamic feedback during operations. The system also integrates with Exactech’s prominent Vantage total ankle system, forming a part of the company’s Active Intelligence suite of sophisticated technological solutions.
“The introduction of GPS Ankle underlines our dedication to delivering pioneering, top-tier smart technologies to surgeons and their clientele,” remarked Exactech President and CEO Darin Johnson. “GPS Ankle along with our comprehensive Active Intelligence portfolio exhibits our commitment to offering revolutionary smart solutions to facilitate surgeons in executing intricate surgical procedures.”
