CapsoVision has revealed that the FDA has granted approval for its CapsoCam Plus system to be used with children aged two and up. This innovative system offers a non-invasive and comfortable endoscopy experience through a capsule device. Hailing from Saratoga, California, CapsoVision’s system is equipped with four cameras, providing a high-resolution, panoramic 360° lateral view of the small intestine to detect abnormalities. This technology lets doctors view the mucosa directly, where potential issues reside, rather than through a “tunnel,” enhancing lesion visibility.
What’s more, the CapsoCam Plus system spares children from wearing cumbersome devices like recorders, sensor belts, and vests, which are usually adhered to the patient’s body. This eliminates the hassle for families of dealing with malfunctioning or detached equipment, as well as the task of returning gear post-procedure, which are common problems with older capsule endoscopy methods.
After swallowing the capsule, young patients can immediately resume their daily activities. The retrieval system’s easy-to-use design means checking if the capsule has passed requires no further tests or X-rays. Additionally, CapsoCam includes CapsoCloud, the company’s sophisticated cloud software, which allows healthcare providers to access diagnostic results online, boosting efficiency and shortening procedure time.
“At CapsoVision, our focus has always been on innovative diagnostics and ensuring patient comfort,” stated Johnny Wang, the company’s president and CEO. “With the CapsoCam Plus now cleared for pediatric use in kids age two and older, we can extend our care offerings to our youngest patients, ensuring they get the attention and care they deserve. CapsoCam is a solution designed for children, significantly enhancing the experience for patients, parents, and providers while boosting diagnostic accuracy and confidence.”
