Nicola Kilner to Leave Her Role as CEO of Deciem

Announcement

Nicola Kilner, who co-founded and currently leads Deciem, is set to resign as CEO by year-end. This decision follows the $1.7 billion acquisition of the company by The Estée Lauder Companies, completed five months ago.

Background

In 2013, Kilner launched Deciem alongside Brandon Truaxe, whose visionary approach helped establish the brand as a notable disruptor in the beauty industry. Significant recognition came in 2017 with the introduction of The Ordinary, a skincare line that has become the company’s flagship success. Since Estée Lauder’s initial investment in Deciem in 2017, the company progressively expanded its stake, eventually becoming the majority shareholder in 2021, and completing its full acquisition in the recent past.

Context

Kilner’s exit coincides with a series of leadership changes within Estée Lauder. Notably, Stéphane de La Faverie has been announced as the upcoming CEO, set to assume the position in January 2025.
