The PCI (Pharmacy Council of India) has instructed pharmacists lacking an ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) number to obtain one as soon as possible and register their DIGI-PHARMed profile promptly with the ABHA number. This initiative aims to merge the pharmacists’ database with the Healthcare Professional Registry (HPR).
In its efforts towards integration, the Council is currently verifying all registered pharmacists on the DIGI-PHARMed portal. It has urged pharmacists to follow specific steps to facilitate a seamless transition.
“All pharmacists with existing registrations should confirm their DIGI-PHARMed profile using their ABHA Number immediately. This confirmation must occur within 45 days of the circular’s issue,” stated the Council communication to pharmacists.
The council further cautioned, “Failure to complete this will result in the deactivation of the pharmacist’s profile on the DIGI-PHARMed portal.”
For new registrations, pharmacists must validate their profiles with the ABHA number at registration. Omission of this verification will render the registration incomplete.
Pharmacists who lack an ABHA number are instructed to generate one using Aadhaar before starting the registration on the DIGI-Pharmed portal.
The Council also appeals to pharmacy institutions to ensure all faculty members have verified ABHA profiles. It noted that from the 2025-26 academic session, only faculty profiles verified with ABHA numbers will be acknowledged for SIF applications and further reference.
It is imperative for pharmacists to guarantee that all documents provided at the time of registration are authentic. If any inconsistencies are found, the concerned pharmacist’s profile will face blacklisting, the Council warned.
Pharmacists or institutions encountering issues with the process can either email or call the Council for support.
The Healthcare Professionals Registry serves as an exhaustive database of certified professionals across various medical systems, including modern medicine, dentistry, Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa, and homeopathy, delivering healthcare in India.
The ABHA number uniquely identifies individuals, validates them, and can connect their health records across multiple platforms, with patient consent.
This registry is part of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), which integrates healthcare providers into India’s digital health landscape with unique IDs. It ensures that qualified professionals authorized to practice medicine are recognized within the HPR, promoting competence and ethical standards in healthcare service delivery.
