Unilever Consolidates Sustainability and Communications into a Single Role

Unilever has revealed that Rebecca Marmot, the current Chief Sustainability Officer, will expand her responsibilities following the exit of Paul Matthews. Matthews previously served as the Global Head of Communications and Corporate Affairs.

Reports from Trellis, supported by an internal communication from Unilever’s CEO Heinrich Schumacher, clarify that Marmot will now oversee the combined sustainability and communications teams in a newly unified department.

Marmot’s journey with Unilever began in their external affairs division. Trellis highlights that traditionally, the company’s sustainability and communications functions were integrated within corporate PR and marketing branches, areas that are increasingly influenced by external regulations and policies.
